The actor has met director Steven Soderbergh about starring as Napoleon Solo in movie about two crime-fighting secret agents, Hollywood Reporter explained.

Even now in early progress, it's thought the movie will retain its 1960s setting.

The authentic Television sequence, which ran from 1964 to 1968, starred Robert Vaughn within the lead function of Napoleon Solo.

British actor David McCallum also starred as Illya Illya Kuryakin, operating as part of the United Network Command for Law Enforcement, fighting the evil organisation Thrush.

Clooney is a long-time collaborator with Soderbergh, the pair operating with each other previously on films such as From Sight, the Ocean's Eleven sequence and Syriana, for which Clooney won an Oscar.

But with Soderbergh and Clooney hectic with their very own projects, it might be a while before the undertaking arrives with each other.

Soderbergh is shooting thriller Contagion starring Matt Damon, Jude Law and Marion Cotillard, though Clooney is operating around the Ides of March which he is directing and starring in alongside Ryan Gosling, Paul Giamatti and Marisa Tomei.

George Clooney's The American was top rated movie in the North American field office through a lacklustre Labour Day weekend.

The movie, in which the US star plays an assassin hiding out in Europe, manufactured $13m (?eight.4m) involving Friday and Sunday, according to studio estimates.

That was sufficient to knock crime thriller Takers, final week's number one movie, down to second put.

But its chart-topping overall performance did not prevent the summer season movie heading season ending on a traditionally weak note.

Takers' second weekend takings of $11.5m (?7.5m) place it just forward of Machete, which opened in third put with an $11.3m (?7.4m) haul.

Starring Danny Trejo, the violent motion thriller was inspired by a spoof trailer that appeared within the 2007 feature Grindhouse.

The top rated 5 was completed by horror movie The Very last Exorcism and romantic comedy Going the gap.

The latter, which stars Drew Barrymore and Justin Very long as being a few trying a long distance romance, manufactured its debut at 5 using a $6.9m (?four.5m) three-day tally.
